NHF Education Project at Michika & Madagali LGAs of Adamawa State

With funding from OCHA_Nigeria, in collaboration with Plan International, we were able to implement the NHF project on Child Protection, from November 2021 to July 2022, with the following achievements: Radio clubs were established to provide remedial support to children who are at risk of dropping out of school or facing educational challenges in the communities. 1,268 children benefited from Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) for the period of 9 months across 9 locations. 10 classrooms and 20 Latrines were rehabilitated to provide conducive, safe and protective learning environment for the beneficiaries. During the 9 Months, incentives were provided for 40 volunteer teachers across Madagali and Michika. The teachers provide support to learners at the IRI clubs and safe school/hygiene clubs. 140 Government teachers, CVTs and SBMC members were identified from different schools and trained on COVID-19 prevention, referral pathways and reporting channels. 100 hand washing kits were provided in the schools and learning centers in the communities of implementation. 800 adolescent girls benefited from dignity kits to support their menstrual hygiene management. The girls were identified on the bases of their vulnerability. Children were selected and grouped into clubs termed safe schools club. This was to build self-protection knowledge, skills and behaviors for safety and protection in line with the Safe School Common Approach. We procured and distributed 5000 school kits. The package of learning materials provided to girls and boys in this project includes school bags, stationary (notebooks/exercise books, pencils/pens, erasers). 100 teachers were trained on basic teaching skills and pedagogy. The training involved interactive activities, group works and presentations that helped improved knowledge of teachers to teach in the classrooms and Radio clubs. 40 CVTs were trained on seven important Life skills modules to help the children excel in school and life in general. There were positive parenting training sessions at the community level. 200 parents benefited from it. We identified and engaged 80 key stakeholders in a monthly community dialogue, aimed at increasing access to education and improving the protection of children.
