From 2015 -2020, ROHI has supported over 150,000 vulnerable children to return to school through non formal education and formal education activities in different parts of Adamawa and Borno State, constructing temporal learning classrooms with associated gender segregated latrines, training teachers, providing child protection and GBV responses tailored towards their concerns, increasing adolescent girls’ enrollment through sensitization and provision of hygiene dignity kits and distributing Education in Emergencies materials.

ROHI is known in Girei, Yola North, Michika, Mubi North and South, Michika and Maiha LGA of Adamawa State, Maiduguri, Biu, Mafa, Dikwa Chibok, Monguno and Damboa LGAs of Borno State, where it has delivered education and protection response for mostly the internal displaced persons and the host community members.

ROHI comprises of a board of trustees and the organization is headed by an Executive Director and the Programs Manager also belongs to the management committee of the organization. ROHI has an enduring partnership with Creative Associates, International Rescue Committee, Victims Support Fund, Street Child of Nigeria, the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund, Education Cannot Wait, Malala Fund and UNICEF. In partnership with Creative Associates and International Rescue Committee, with funding from USAID and UKAID; ROHI provided non formal education support for children and tutoring activities for children in formal schools.

Through the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund, ROHI is working at providing access to safe, protective, inclusive and quality education for conflict affected children while also providing child protection and psychosocial support to address the stigma attached to the conflict affected children. The major activities consist of construction of temporal learning space, rehabilitation of existing space, provision of gender segregated latrines and provision of school supplies. Teachers are trained, coached and mentored to provide quality teaching at the schools.

Furthermore, with funding from ECHO and partnership between UNICEF, Street Child and ROHI, Children at Monguno are provided with non-formal education and child protection responses for children particularly Unaccompanied and Separated Children, Children associated with Armed Groups and other protection risk. With funding from the German cooperation, Street Child, GIZ and ROHI are partnering at communities of Mubi and Maiha of Adamawa State, implementing girls’ education project through the Teaching at the Right Level (TARL) while addressing child protection and GBV responses and providing tailored support for improved enrollment and retention.

With funding from Malala Fund, ROHI is advocating for the safety of schools through building community resilience and urging governments of Adamawa and Borno State to prioritize the protection of children at schools.
